Want To Hike The
(These are all 'dynamic hikes') Melissa aka Shoe will be leading an on- going project designed for Trail Dames to hike the entire Georgia portion of the AT! Read further for details... Saturday AT hikes: This is a series of hikes that will take place on the first Saturday of every month. If you complete all these hikes over a 12 month period you will have completed all 76.4 miles of the Appalachian Trail in the state of Georgia and will be eligible to earn a patch from the Georgia ATC. I have designed these hikes to be fairly low mileage so that anyone can do them. That being said, there are 1, possibly 2, sections that will have to be completed as overnight hikes unless you want to hike around 13-14 miles in a day. Most of these hikes will require the staging of cars at each end of the section. If you can’t make a particular hike in a given month – have no worries. Those sections will come around on a yearly basis and you will have the chance to complete them. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at: Melissa@melissaonthetrail.com Or give me a call at: 678-936-1692 2010 Saturday Appalachian Trail Hike Schedule: Coming Soon!! |

(For trail information and directions, click on trail name) Dames will have the opportunity to
of $1 per hike to go towards TD expenses. March 6- Shoe's AT Hike Series- Hightower Gap to Cooper Gap plus a bonus This section is only 3.5 miles. There is a steep climb Since this is such a short section I have thrown in a trail magic bonus for those that want to tag along. After we finish the hike we will hike 3/4 of a mile to Hawk Mountain Shelter. I would like to hike some firewood up to the shelter for the thru-hikers. This shelter is such a heavily used shelter and firewood can sometimes be a difficult task to get. If we have 10 people volunteer to haul up a piece or 2 of firewood that would be so totally awesome in my book. We will need several cars that are able to drive up forest service roads that are in good condition. For those that don't want to do the trail magic bonus you will need to drive your own vehicle as well. We will put your cars at the end of the hike so you can head straight home. Looking forward to seeing lots of people there. We will meet at 7:45 at Huthmaker Violins to carpool ************************************** March 21st- Sunday, Trail Dame Hike Unicoi State Park- Park to Helen Trail 2.7- 5.3 miles your choice! We will meet at Huthmaker Violins at 8:00 am There is a $5 per car state park fee Note- due to the 'lunch in Helen' aspect of this hike, this will not be appropriate for dogs. If you want to hike with your pup, plan on bringing your car and hiking to town and back. **************************************
