Dames in the New York area have two chapters to choose from!!! We suggest you join both and take advantage of all of the fun activities the Dames have to offer!
Greetings Trail Dames and Future Trail Dames of NY!!!
Two things run in my blood: hiking and teaching. I am a music teacher by day and a hiker on the weekends. So, naturally I wanted to combine the two. I couldn’t be happier to combine brainpower with the fabulous Rebecca to provide safe and inclusive hiking and outdoor adventures for the women of NY.
I have explored many trails in the southeastern part of the Adirondacks and the Capital Region of NY, often solo. I have also done quite a bit of hiking down in Georgia and South Carolina. I have done very small sections of the AT. Right now focusing on completing Georgia and Vermont.
Originally, I came across the Trail Dames when I lived in Georgia near Atlanta. Unfortunately, I discovered them a bit too late in my life adventure down there. I soon moved back to my home state of New York. So, I decided I would check out the Trail Dames once I got my life a bit more settled up here. I went to go find the NY chapter and it didn’t exist. So, I debated for a good while about applying to get the chapter going (again). Finally, I decided to go for it! I am honored the board chose me as one of your fearless leaders to undertake the NY chapter.
I cannot wait to share laughs, encouragement, stories, and new memories with the amazing Trail Dames of NY. Let hike together, fall on our butts together, learn together, eat bugs (maybe some dirt, too!) together and most importantly accomplish together! See you on the trail.

My name is Rebecca but you can call me Bec for short--because I am. But what I lack in stature, I make up for in humor, motivation, and my love of the outdoors. I grew up in a small Dutch-settled fishing village in New York (also known as Brooklyn) where taking long walks and camping was the norm in my family. Since moving to the Hudson Valley with my husband and kids, I've discovered that I love hiking. Being in the woods consistently sparks my creativity, my love for adventure, my curiosity, and my confidence. The reward of a beautiful view, the sense of accomplishment at the end of a hike, and the "I worked hard, I deserve this" feeling when taking a break--no matter how often!--is something that I want to share with other hike-minded women. Getting out on the trail can be daunting, but I hope you'll join us. If you believe that nature is something to be savored and not hurried, and if you're searching for a diverse group of supportive women of all ages and experience levels working together to summit those mountains, Trail Dames is the place for you.
